The Alhambra, Red Castle of Spain, was a palace, fortress and small city. It continues to be one of the top tourist destinations in Spain and the count of its visitor remains consistent on a regular basis.
Alhambra is an Arabic word, which means ‘red castle’. Constructed primarily for military purposes, it was a palace, a fortress and also a small city. Until the 13 century, it was not home to any king. The construction of the palace is basically the work of two of the greatest kings of their times-Yosuf I and Mohammed V.
Alcazaba
Alhambra’s oldest part is the Alcazaba. It was reconstructed from the ruins of a castle. The famous towers in Alcazaba are Homenaje and Quebrada. Torre de las Armas has an elaborate interior while the Torre de la Vela is impressively large. The famous bell of Alcazaba is rung by young girls on special occasions. Of all the walled enclosure, this one is the tallest tower and the view of the panorama from here extends the horizon. The silhouette is a very special symbol for the Granada people.
Jardín de los Adarves
The entrance of the Alcazaba is occupied by Jardín de los Adarves. Several palace groups including series of structures and courts comprises of The Alhambra. Since 16th century, the palaces are being coined as the Old Royal House in order to get them distinguished from Christian buildings.
Granada Art
The castle contains the three divisions including a royal apartment and reception saloon. The chamber, a work of Muhammad V, illustrates the Granada art. Court of lions is very original in its nature and bears a harmony when East and West merge. The courtyard is bordered by four halls, the first one is Sala de los Mozárabes, the second one being Sala de Abencerrajes, the third one being de los Reyes and finally we have de las Dos Hermanas.
Thus, the Alhambra continues to be one of the top tourist destinations in Rome and still witnesses a considerable count of visitors on a regular basis.
