Stonehenge is one of the most ancient sites of the world. It is situated in the English County of Wiltshire and has not yet lost its old glory. Basically, it is a stone architecture of very peculiarly arranged earthwork, which has a circular setting. Originally, it was owned by the crown itself and a part of the English heritage. The surrounding region and the land near Stonehenge is owned and managed by the National Trust.

One of the most interesting revelations found in the years is that the Stonehenge in its earliest beginning served as a burial ground. There are archaeological evidences to prove this fact. The dating of cremation over this place may have been held in as early as 3000 BC. Even though the first ditches were built for the Stonehenge, the burial continued for the next five hundred years to come.

Historians believe that the Stonehenge has itself evolved in different phases of construction. They also believe that the architecture of this wonder of the planet has uniqueness in itself. The orientation of the stone structure has been done keeping in mind the same relative geographical position in the ground with respect to sky.

Some of the leading astronomers have even said that after studying the construction of Stonehenge, it gives significant clues regarding various purpose of the earthwork of the region. Stonehenge has not only marked the line of Equinoxes, but also is mirroring with the shape of our Milky Way.

Being one of the magnificent and ancient stone structures, the preservation of this architecture is being seriously planned. UNESCO has conferred Stonehenge with the world heritage status in early 1986.

Tourists from all over the globe come for seeing this ancient earthwork, Stonehenge. They always have words of praise for this wonderful stone structure.
