Description: Located in Andes Mountain, Machu Pichu is a religious retreat and includes 200 buildings. It creates an elegant and seamless green paradise and leaves the visitors with no option, but to visit the place.

Machu Pichu, which means Old Peak, was a religious retreat and a royal estate. It was built in the 15th century. Since it is situated at a height of 8000 feet above the sea level, it does not have any military, commercial or administrative use.

Where is Machu Pichu ?

Machu Pichu is situated in the Andes Mountain. It lies to the northwest of Cozco and hides itself from Urabamba gorge lying below. A ridge lies between the Huyaynac Pichu and a highland block. The area comprises of about 200 buildings, which include residence, storage structures, temples and public buildings. It also has polygonal masonry.

Well-planned buildings

The buildings were planned and built by the Inca architects. Structures are nothing but blocks of granite cut with stone tools or bronze, which were smoothened with sand. No two blocks are of the same size, but they have been fitted perfectly without mortar. The joints are very tights. However, the most unique thing about the town is that the whole architecture has been integrated into a landscape. The houses had trapezoidal doors and thatched roofs. A group of ten houses make a courtyard.

Intihuatana

Intihuatana is a unique thing found in the town of Machu Pichu. It is a stone’s column, which rises from a block of stone. Gradually in due course of time, they were destroyed by Spanish conquerors. Mummies are also found in Machu Pichu.

Preferred activities for tourists

Tourists, mainly the hikers, prefer climbing their way to the Inca Trail. Most of them consider their experience to be magical. If you glance out from the Funerary Rock Hut on every temple, field, terrace and bath, it will take you to a complete different era.

Blending with the hillside, many believe that Machu Pichu creates an elegant and seamless green paradise. Thus, it leaves visitors with no option but to visit it, if they travel to Peru.
