The Acropolis, located in Athens, is the best acropolis in the whole world. Its significance lies in the fact that the monument is known as The Acropolis without any qualification. It was formally proclaimed on 26 March 2007 as the most pre-eminent monument on the list of European Cultural Heritage monuments. The Acropolis of Athens rises 490 ft above the sea level and is basically a flat-topped rock. It is also known by the name Cecropia after the legendary serpent man, Cecrops, who was the first Athenian King.
