Petronas Twin Towers : World’s Tallest Official Twin Building
Filed under Malaysia
The Petronas Towers or the twin towers are located in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. They were conferred with the name of Petronas towers in the year 1996 by the Council of Tall buildings. Before Taipei 101 surpassed them, they were widely acclaimed as the tallest towers of the world. Nevertheless, they continue to be the tallest official buildings.
These two towers have been constructed differently: the first one by the Hazama Corporations and the second one by the Samsung Engineering. According to the information available from National Geographic channel and the Korean Newspaper, the earlier building had some problem and leaned around 25mm. So, later the Kukdong Engineering assisted in the completion of the project.
Petronas Twin Towers have the sky touching height of 452 meters. Cesar Pelli, an American architect, had done the designing of these twin towers. Their entire construction was eventually over by 1998. It was taken care that these buildings would be based on very deep and hard foundations to support their base. Thus, they were established on hard bedrock. The foundation itself was made of large quantity of concrete and got designed by Bachy Soletanche.
There are 88 floors present in these towers. Mostly reinforced cement was used for the designing of these two buildings. Earlier, it was planned to be materialized on steel foundations. However, due to the expensive value of steel, it could not be done. Though reinforced cement is twice as strong as steel, the structures tend to get very heavy with the former.
The motifs belonging to the Islamic art were phenomenally portrayed through the glass and steel façade of Petronas Twin Towers. Thus, they are also beautiful reflections of the Muslim religion in Malaysia.
Finally, Petronas Twin Towers are not only used for official purposes, but they have been utilized in both tourism and entertainment industry. They have been amongst the reasons for Malaysia to be amongst the popular tourist destination across the globe.
