Giza Pyramid : One Of The World’s Tallest Man-Made Structures

Giza Pyramid also known as the Khufu’s Pyramid or Pyramid of Khufu is the largest and oldest of the three pyramids present in the Giza Necropolis border (Cairo, Egypt). The Pyramid of Giza was one of the members of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. The pyramid was believed to be built as a tomb for King Khufu, the fourth dynasty Egyptian King. It was the tallest structure made by man for more than 3,800 years.

Giza Pyramid was originally covered with casing stones forming a smooth outer surface. This is even seen today as an underlying core structure. The casing stones that used to cover the structure of the Great Pyramid can be still seen around the base. Various scientific and alternative theories suggest that the Giza Pyramid was built by moving large stones from a quarry and then dragging and lifting them into the proper place.

The pyramid is known to have three structures. It was built on the lowest structure, which was cut into the bedrock. The King’s and Queen’s chamber were located higher up the lower structure.

Giza Pyramid is the main part of the pyramid complex that has many buildings and include two mortuary temples built in honour of Khufu (the first one is close to the pyramid and the other one is near the River Nile), three other smaller pyramids for the Khufu’s wife, a smaller even satellite pyramid, raised causeway that connects the 2 temples and small mastaba tombs, which surrounds the pyramid for nobles.

The base of the Giza Pyramid is not a perfect square. It is a 4-point star and each of the sides of the Giza Pyramid is slightly concave making all the faces of the pyramid to be indented from the corner. It continues to the midpoint of the base. This unique design feature of the Giza pyramid can be seen at certain times of the day only from the air.
